Frequently Asked Questions
1. When can I apply to study?
New students are accepted for the Master’s Degree Programme Evidence-Based Health Care in each winter semester. The application phase begins in the summer semester, usually starting in early/mid-August and lasting until mid-July.
2. What is the procedure for writing the Motivational Essay?
Following successful only application you will be invited by email to the Motivational Essay appointment. You will handwrite the Motivational Essay on two DIN-A4 pages at the Hochschule für Gesundheit (University of Applied Sciences). All you will need is a writing utensil. If you are unable to write a Motivational Essay because the proposed dates are not suitable, your Motivational Essay will receive the mark 5.0.
3. How long does the Master’s Degree Programme take?
The regulation period of study for the Master’s Degree is 3 semesters, i.e. 1½ years.
4. Will I be able to work during the period of study?
Evidence-based Health Care is not a part-time course of studies, but rather a full-time one. We do our best to schedule the seminars in compact units, but it is difficult to give a single answer to the question “studies plus job – YES or NO” that would apply to everyone. It is practically impossible to estimate how much time an individual will need to prepare for and then process the seminar content.
5. What second-semester projects are available?
At the start of the second semester you select from the projects presented on the online platform “moodle”. The projects are categorized according to three focal areas: Children’s, Women’s and Family Health; Activity, Participation and Quality of Life or Applied Physiology in Healthcare. You can make your first, second and third choices based on the project descriptions. A minimum number of students must select a project for it to be realized. If interest in a project is insufficient to reach this minimum number of participants the project cannot be offered.
6. Can I define a focus for my studies?
Yes, it is possible to define a focus for your course of studies. Within the two elective modules “Basic Science Focus” (SG.1-3) and “Project Focus” (SP.1-3) you can select from the following thematic focuses:
· Children’s, Women’s and Family Health
· Activity, Participation and Quality of Life
· Applied Physiology in Healthcare
If you have completed both elective modules with the same focus, your focus of studies (“major”) will be entered on the Transcript of Records.
