The Degree Programme Evidence-Based Health Care comprises four compulsory modules and two elective modules. The following compulsory modules must be completed during the period of studies:

“Research Methods and Evidence-Based Practice”: This module conveys and deepens knowledge in the areas of evidence-based research and practice, quantitative and qualitative analytical methods and application of freely available statistical analysis software.

“Project and Science Management”: Knowledge of project and science management is obtained in this module: on the goals, significance, development and methods of project and science management as well as coordination and evaluation of the individual steps involved in project management.

“Health System and Healthcare”: This module addresses approaches and strategies for healthcare and potentials for its further development. Other subjects addressed are healthcare control problems and approaches to solutions in the context of healthcare policy - also within the framework of comparison of healthcare systems internationally.

“Reflection Seminar on Master’s Thesis”: In this module, critical reflection and discussion skills are applied and enhanced in relation to the methods used in one’s own and other’s research efforts.

In the elective modules “Basic Science Focus” and “Project Focus”, the following 3 thematic focal courses can be selected, which are only offered if the minimum number of participants is reached and therefore cannot be guaranteed by the Hochschule für Gesundheit (University of Applied Sciences). In such cases, the course of studies can then be completed with a different focus.

You can choose between the following areas of focus:

Children's, women's and family health

This area of focus is of interest to students who wish to be active in the following areas in future:

  • Prepartum and antipartum care
  • Development promotion and care of children
  • Promotion of women's health in the reproductive life phase
  • Support of complex nursing processes in the family

Activity, participation and quality of life

This area of focus is oriented to students who would primarily like to work in the following areas:

  • Evaluation of temporary or permanent nursing and therapy needs
  • Planning of nursing and therapy concepts for chronically ill people or those requiring nursing in outpatient and stationary care.
  • Application of nursing and therapy concepts for the chronically ill and people requiring nursing in outpatient and stationary care

Applied physiology in health care
This area of focus is suitable for students who see their professional future in the following areas:

  • Research of the mechanisms of action and the systematic adaption of therapy and nursing methods
  • Trial and application in complex care situations
  • Research activity in the health economy and health aid industry

Basic modules convey knowledge in the areas of public health, evidence-based practice, research methods, health policy, management and economy. Scientific knowledge is also deepened in the respective areas of focus named above. The focus of the Master degree programme is on independent project work. Classes on project management and the method colloquium prepare the students for participation in two research projects. In the context of this research project, students learn the targeted processing of health questions, project planning, realisation and control, extending to project evaluation and project conclusion. Students are thus very much involved in the research process, are confronted with all successes and problems relating to scientific research, and formulate suggestions for solutions within the team. A research project can be incorporated into the Master thesis.
