Study Scope

The Evidence-based Health Care degree programme is a full time course of study and encompasses three semesters including the Master thesis. The amount of work is calculated on the basis of ECTS points, whereby an ECTS point corresponds to 30 clock hours (presence and independent learning time). 90 ECTS points are awarded over the entire course of study. The course of study consists of 6 modules and is taught in German.

1st Semester

In the first semester, seminars on the compulsory modules “Research Methods and Evidence-Based Practice” (G.1), “Project and Science Management” (G.2) and the elective module “Basic Science Focus” (SG.1-3) are offered. During the orientation phase, students also select their preferred elective module. They can select from among the following thematic focuses: “Children’s, Women’s and Family Health” (SG.1), “Activity, Participation and Quality of Life” (SG.2) or “Applied Physiology in Healthcare” (SG.3). At the end of the first semester, the students take 3 module examinations, for which 30 ECTS points are awarded for passes.

2nd Semester

The second semester comprises the compulsory module Health System and Healthcare” (G.3) and the elective module “Project Focus” (SP.1-3). In this elective module as well, students can choose between focuses as follows: “Children’s, Women’s and Family Health” (SP.1), “Activity, Participation and Quality of Life” (SP.2) or “Applied Physiology in Healthcare” (SP.3). Project proposal exposés for the second semester can be downloaded from the online platform “moodle”. Students select their first, second and third choices from among the projects offered. Students who have passed the 2 module examinations receive an additional 30 ECTS points.

3rd Semester

In the third semester, the "Reflection Seminar on Master’s Thesis" (P.5) takes place, in which students evaluate the state of research and the theories relating to their theme and identify and apply suitable measurement procedures and instruments. The project of the module SP.1-3 can be developed further as a theme in the Master Thesis. Upon successful completion of the third semester, students are credited with another 30 CPs, meaning that a total of 90 CPs can be acquired for the course of study.
