Nursing care encompasses a wide range of activities and is assured of a good future. Being close to people is the core of nursing care, so the tasks associated with this profession are diverse and exciting.

Among scientific and social-political experts there is consensus that demand for professional nursing and healthcare services is increasing and will continue to do so, and that the range of nursing practice will expand constantly. More complex nursing care of people living in families, changing symptoms and life situations, advances made in medical sciences, expansion of prevention and rehabilitation services, as well as an ageing population are only some of the latest developments which explain the growing need for academically qualified health professionals.

But it is not only the core fields of healthcare and nursing services that need highly qualified professionals. Besides the “classic” fields of nursing practice – namely hospitals, nursing homes for the elderly , and community-based care services – there are numerous and new fields of activities. These include, for example, advising patients and their family caregivers, qualifying staff, working at hospices, or planning and establishing healthcare and nursing networks.
